Mary J Blige, Diddy and Lil Wayne – “Someone To Love Me” (Naked Remix)
There has been no shortage of songs featuring Lil Wayne lately, but this one is a little bit different: This time, he’s teamed up with Mary J. Blige for a remix of Diddy Dirty Money’s “Someone To Love Me.”
Diddy introduces the song with, “Hey Mary, I want you to talk to them like you’re supposed to,” followed by a typically powerful performance from the R&B veteran. The track from the hip hop mogul’s latest venture forewent the trend of dance-oriented hip hop, which suits Blige’s style perfectly. Her rerecording of the soulful hook from the ladies of Dirty Money holds everything together.
Blige is a hard act to follow, but Diddy holds his own with his first verse from the original song. Lil Wayne shows up with a dose of surprising sensitivity, with the lines “Yesterday was a memory/Looking in the mirror at my enemy.” When Blige returns at the end of the track to wrap everything up, it’s clear that the remix is not so much about three heavyweights joining forces as it is about the universal search for love and acceptance.
